The Good News About Stress Management: How “good” Stress Keeps Us Going & Growing

Every health and lifestyle magazine contains articles claiming stress is bad for us. They list dozens of ways to relieve stress, from exercise to eating healthy foods. A wide range of relaxation techniques have also been proven to help manage stress in our crazy-busy world, especially for people who take care of others and tend to neglect themselves.

But stress is not always as bad as these cautionary articles insist. In fact, some stress is actually necessary to keep us going and growing.

Our individual responses to different types and levels of stress can either drain or energize us. It is how we perceive and process both ongoing and unexpected stressors that intensifies or reduces their impact on our bodies, minds and emotions.

The term “stress” was first used in the mid-1950s by endocrinologist Dr. Hans Selye in his book “The Stress of Life.” In his research experiments, Selye discovered that we experience stress not only when we hear bad news but also when we receive good news. He differentiated these two types of stressors by calling negative stress “distress” and positive stress “eustress” (the Greek prefix “eu” means well or good).

The idea that we naturally feel stressed by positive experiences — like getting married, having a baby, graduations, promotions, winning awards or races — is echoed in the Social Readjustment Ratings Scale. Devised by University of Washington medical researchers Holmes and Rahe, the SRRS ranks the impact of good stress-events as well as bad stressors like death, divorce or losing a job.

They discovered it is the accumulation of minor plus major changes over a period of time that increases one’s chances of developing stress-related ailments like heart disease, cancer or a weakened immune system. Stress effects also intensify when several changes occur without enough time between them to recharge our physical and mental resources.

When dealing with normal life changes, Holmes and Rahe also concluded that a single event is rarely stressful enough to cause significant illness if we have some control over the situation and are able to view it as a challenge or opportunity instead of a threat.

So stress is not always bad or unhealthy. It can actually keep us from becoming complacent or staying too long in jobs, relationships or environments which are not good for us. When bad stress builds to the “breaking point,” it usually forces us to make choices and change our behavior or environment with positive and healthier results.

Stress is also necessary to keep us moving forward while working toward a goal — like a creative or business project — or training for athletic events like championship games or marathons. This type of eustress prevents us from slowing down or giving up too soon and helps us build momentum in the early stages to empower us to reach the “finish line.”

So positive stress management can actually give us a Competitive Edge via increased focus and drive. As we move forward on what researchers call the Performance Stress Curve, eustress helps us make choices, take actions and communicate more clearly.

When it comes to managing stress, there are two basic approaches: Defensive or Offensive. If we take a Defensive approach, we subconsciously distort reality by hoping the situation will change without having to do anything about it. But this keeps us in a state of denial and often amplifies the internal impact of distress, contributing to disease or depression.

Taking an Offensive approach, however, enables us to manage stress by using it to our advantage. By consciously changing or adapting, we adjust to life-changes organically and can view things in perspective that at first feel like problems. Then we can reframe these “problems” as opportunities or challenges and take appropriate action.

Offensive ways to manage stress include:
1.Changing our situation whenever possible
2.Increasing our ability to cope with the situation as it is
3.Changing our perception so the situation looks and feels different
4.Changing our behavior, as this is truly where we have the most control

Whenever we feel stressed, it can be useful to first determine whether it’s Distress or Eustress. Then we can decide whether to become Offensive by utilizing or adjusting it, or remain Defensive and wait to see if the situation changes on its own. Sometimes choosing to live with stress is appropriate, like when it energizes our Competitive Edge.

We can also balance our stress levels to avoid being thrown off-center too easily or often. Ongoing stress management techniques for creating balance include sleeping well, eating healthy foods, exercising, meditating &/or focusing on the positive things in our lives. These are simple and inexpensive ways to relieve pressure, especially when we’re faced with unexpected events or must manage stress over a long period of time.

While the bad news is that it’s nearly impossible to avoid stress in our crazy-busy world, the good news is that using stress management techniques and being mindful can actually make stress empowering instead of draining. This puts us in control of the stressors in our lives so they can’t stop us from continuing to go forward and grow more joyfully empowered every day.

What do You Need to Know About Stress Management

Realizing the need of stress management, many experts have been continuously conducting studies in order to give people who suffer from it as many options as possible. As defined, stress management is means of managing stress using various techniques that are key in equipping people with coping mechanisms that can be effective when they undergo different types and levels of stress.

Experts say that over the years, there have been so many stress management techniques that have been developed in order to help people deal with psychological stress, physical stress, and even emotional stress. But, these stress management techniques is not tailored for all types of people. Many of these will work on other people while some of it may not be very effective or helpful to other. So, for stress management to be effective, an individual must utilize a specific technique or strategy and see if he or she can cope with various stressful circumstances.

Managing stress effectively

Stress is one thing that many people cannot live without. In fact, there are those people who use stress to fuel their drive to do something or accomplish tasks in time. Although stress can be beneficial to some people, this is not always the case for everyone because too much unmanaged stress can be detrimental to physical and psychological well being.

As defined, stress refers to an individual’s “physiological response to an internal or external stimulus that triggers the fight-or-flight response.” Meaning, it is something that is innate for people and normal once it is managed properly.

To date, there are various models of stress management that are being recommended to people who want to effectively manage their stress levels. The most common stress management models include the transactional model and the health realization or innate health model.

The transactional model says that stress that is not a direct response to a certain stressor but from other sources can be controllable. Here, the stress that a person goes through may be reduced by changing the stressors’ perceptions, thus, providing people with different strategies and techniques for them to cope up and gain back their confidence in completing tasks at hand.

Another stress management model is the health realization or innate health model which says that being stressed doesn’t always need a stressor to be felt. This model aims to help individuals that are being stressed to better understand the nature of a person’s thinking specifically in giving them the realization that to know when they are feeling stress so they will know how to overcome it and eventually reduce their stress levels.

To effectively manage stress, there are some techniques that can be used to manage it. Majority of which can help people who get stress to cope with it or even control it during crucial instances. Experts say that most of these techniques can vary depending on the theories that are being taken into consideration.

The techniques to manage stress include meditation, cognitive therapy for anxiety or clinical depression, nootropic, autogenic training, exercise, deep breathing, conflict resolution, various relaxation techniques, which include either fractional and progressive relaxation or using stress balls.

You can also use natural medication, alternative treatments that are validated by the clinic, effective time management, and through listening to certain types of music that are relaxing which include new age music and classical music.

Stress Management is an Important Part of a Healthy Lifestyle

Stress is your response to any physical, emotional or intellectual demands. Stress is a major contributing factor either directly or indirectly, to coronary artery disease, cancer, respiratory disorders, accidental injuries, cirrhosis of the liver and suicide; the six leading causes of death in the United States. Although we can’t eliminate stress, we can all do a better job in managing it. Stress management includes following a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, and making time for uninterrupted relaxation.

Symptoms

Symptoms of stress can be either behavioral or physical. They are different for everyone, but some common signs that you’ve had too much excitement and need to slow down include:

Impatience or Edginess – Lack of Enjoyment – Sleep Problems – Exhaustion.

Common physical symptoms of stress include: muscle tension, headaches, low back pain,

insomnia and high blood pressure.

These symptoms may manifest themselves psychologically as irritability, anxiety, impaired concentration, mental confusion, poor judgment, frustration and anger. And some people who have a chronic illness may find that the symptoms of their illness flare up under an overload of stress.

Healthy Lifestyle

Stress management should be a major concern for a healthy lifestyle. Effective stress management is a lifestyle and we must learn to incorporate into our daily lives. A commitment to live a healthier lifestyle should never take a back seat, especially not to stress. Stress management is not only an urgent need in today’s fast-paced lifestyle, but an important factor in both physical and mental health. In the alternative, if stress is more the result of one’s lifestyle, eliminating the stress causing factors and/or gaining healthful insight on how to alleviate stress the right way might just be the best thing for an individual to do for themselves.

Stress Nutrition

Nutrition is one area where stress can be reduced most effectively, because we eat every day at least 3 times a day, so even the smallest of changes could bring about significant benefits. Stress can and does also result from unbalanced and inappropriate nutrition; excessive use of socially acceptable intoxicants; suppressive drugs and vaccinations; environmental toxins; negative emotions; lack of physical exercise; genetic factors; and improper body alignment. Stress nutrition is a program specifically designed to combat stress dysfunction and attempts to meet individual biochemical requirements by providing the right amount of each nutrient in proportion to every other nutrient.

Fitness

For decades, fitness professionals have had various degrees of success motivating clients and making them accountable for a healthy lifestyle. There is evidence that you can reduce stress, prevent chronic diseases including depression and improve happiness through ongoing mental fitness training. A complete nutritional approach, combined with proper fitness maintenance and stress management is most important. Exercise and physical fitness act as a buffer against stress, so that stressful events have a less negative impact on psychological and physical health.

Exercises And Sports

You can help trigger the relaxation response by learning simple breathing exercises and then using them when you’re caught up in stressful situations. Other people rely on exercise and participating in their favorite sports and games to spend pent up energy. Not all stress is bad and an example would be in sports. Joining a sports team, even with your co-workers can increase the work fun level, and reduce the tension. Exercises such as golf, tennis, handball, biking, and other sports have shown to help people relax.

Conclusion

Stress management is the application of methods to either reduce stress or increase tolerance to stress. The tricky part of managing stress is that, when dealing with stressful events that are enjoyable « the good stress », you may not always notice how stressed you feel until you experience the more serious stress symptoms, or until you feel overwhelmed. Positive stress is desirable for your own good, and also for the good of your family and also for the society as a whole.

Stress Management Among Students In Universities

At what age do students have the greatest stress? Young parents might say preschoolers have the greatest stress. They are leaving their parents for the first time, and have many reasons to be afraid. Older parents say middle school students have the most stress, having just entered adolescence. Still others will cite secondary school as the time of greatest stress. Most agree, however, that the stresses of university life are very great.

Stress management among students in universities is a hit-or-miss matter. Some universities schedule optional stress management classes, but students often lack the time to attend. If they have the time, they lack interest.

Stress Management Keys

Specific keys will open the door to better stress management among students in universities. Some of those keys are being used, but others are lost or neglected. Without them, stress management is limited for the students. We will not attempt to list here every key, or to put them in any given order. Rather, we would like to suggest stress management keys that may be lost in the rubble of today’s society.

1. Clear definitions: Effective stress management among students requires clear definitions of words such as “stressor,” “stress,” “eustress,” and “distress.”

Students who do not understand clearly what stress is cannot be expected to succeed at stress management. They may be trying to manage stressors, thinking they are managing stress. The outcome may very well be increased stress rather than stress management.

Stress management among students in universities can begin only after they understand that the extra demands made upon them are stressors, not stress. They then must understand that their response to those demands constitutes stress. Finally, if they are to get a grasp on practical stress management, they will need to know that there are two kinds of stress. One, eustress, is beneficial. The other, distress, is detrimental.

Students who understand these concepts, and embrace them, have unlocked the first door leading to stress management.

2. Action Plan: With a firm understanding of the definitions, students are ready to formulate a stress management action plan. They are ready for the proverbial locking of the barn door to prevent the horse’s escape.

Armed with the knowledge that stress is the response to stressors, students can learn to control that response. They can determine to take specific, proactive steps to prepare for stressors. They can, in a sense, ambush the stressors as a step of stress management.

3. Stressor Identification: An important part of the stress management ambush is to learn to identify the enemy. A focused tertiary student will see stressors and know them for what they are. Every university student has stressors. All of us have unusual demands made on us. The key to stress management is to identify those demands as stressors.

In universities and colleges, stressors take the form of unaccustomed activities. Sharing a room with a stranger makes demands on a student. A new form of study is demanding. Financial resources and potentially new dating standards can be stressors.

Whether students are in Italy or Iowa, they are free of the constraints of home, and that freedom is a stressor. Freedom makes unusual demands on one who has not had it in fullness.

All of these and about 2000 more are stressors that a student must identify in order to engage in stress management.

4. Turning Distress into Eustress: Another key that helps unlock the doors to stress management is that of turning distress into eustress. Students often act as victims of their stressors. They believe they can do nothing but suffer. Stress management requires that they learn to turn a potentially negative response to stressors into a positive response.

Eustress, the beneficial stress, is what carries an excited, happy couple through the whirlwind of preparation for a large wedding. From the moment of the proposal, the couple may be surrounded by stressors. Extra demands, unusual demands are being made on them. Yet they are not depressed. The demands do not weigh heavily on them. They embrace them, and respond with smiles. They accept the challenge of getting everything done well and on time because they choose to accept it that way.

The same type of response can be enlisted on other occasions that call for stress management. Much of what students view as negative stress can be turned around, energizing them to excel.

Is this a false, rosy-tinted view of stress management? Not at all. Does this negate principles such as deep breathing, exercise, healthy diet, and regular sleep? No. As we said, this is not an attempt to provide every key to stress management. It is an effort to look at keys that are being neglected.

Stress management among students in universities can be stripped of many programs, drugs, and therapies if these keys are used well.

Natural Stress Remedies and Tips to Naturally Maintain a Healthy Positive Attitude

Stress is a normal feeling that happens in everyone’s life one time or another. It can encourage you to remain focus on something or get things done. We all have it sometimes in our life. Certain occasions are known to cause stress. For some people, it happens before having to speak in public. For other people, it might be before a first date. For people like me, it happens when they meet someone that they love deeply. What causes stress for you may not be stressful for someone else. However, a long-term stress over which you don’t have any control can increase the risk of diseases like depression, cancer, heart disease and a variety of other problems such as suicide.

Scientists have discovered that stress may cause stubborn belly fat. According to government researchers, there is a link between stress, tension, and excess belly fat. High levels of cortisol, stress hormone, can cause pound after pound of excess body fat to accumulate around your waist and even in other parts of your body.

Stress and depression are part of the Western civilization. They reach all classes of the American population. They often lead to taking antidepressants during several months with difficulties of interruption, without ever resolving the problems. To treat a depression or stress, it is essential to investigate the causes. Once the cause is known, it is easier for the stress to be treated even by the patient him/herself.

The most common causes of stress and depression are:

• Sleep deprivation has a number of physical and mental effects
• Alimentation – poor nutrition can contribute to stress
• Thyroid problems can cause depression, fatigue, and lack of dynamism.
• Environment – unsafe neighborhood, pollution, noise, being distracted by gossiping colleagues
• Insulin hyper secretion – releasing excessive of insulin can cause hypoglycemia, fatigue and depression
• Amino acid deficiency that are precursors of neurotransmitters, which plays an important role in our personality
• Professional conditions – job dissatisfaction, insufficient pay, medical professions: doctors, nurses, paramedics, etc.
• Family and relationship – can be a source of stress due to marital disagreements, dysfunctional relationships, jealousy, rebellious teens, and financial problems: bills, debt, high mortgages.

A lot can be done to naturally maintain a healthy positive attitude and prevent occasional emotional lows. It is a good idea to keep your natural feel-good chemicals flowing by eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and whole grain foods, ensuring plenty of fresh air, adequate sleep, moderate sunshine and regular exercise.

In addition, Natural remedies have been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years to gently and safely support the healthy functioning of the brain and nervous system, as well as to encourage normal and efficient balance of emotion and a soothed state.

Stress Management Training and How it Can Help

Stress is normal in your life but if you ever notice that you are starting to have so much stress that it is getting out of control and you don’t know what to do, then you should know that you are going to have to get a stress management tip or even stress management training. The purpose of stress management training is to help you learn how to figure out what the causes of stress are in your life and also determine the best way to deal with your stress.

How to Cope With Stress

There are a few different things that are important to learn about when it comes to stress management training. Of course the first thing that anyone dealing with stress has to do is figure out what the cause of their stress is. In a lot of cases, if you can find out what the cause of your stress is, you can remove the cause from your life and deal with the stress right from the root of it all.

For instance if you find that you are working a lot and this is causing you stress, then even just taking a weekend off every now and then can be the solution here. If you do this and find that you are relieved of your stress, then you don’t have to worry about doing anything further. However, unfortunately for the majority of people there is much more to it than that.

A lot of us get so swamped up in life with all that we have to do, that we feel as though stress is coming at us in every possible way. Kids, our job, personal life including relationships, there are so many different things that we have to worry about.

When it comes to stress management training, you need to know one thing is to just relax and breathe. This is the most important thing for stress management training because when you are feeling stress take over and you may even feel as though you are going to have a panic attack, you need to make sure that you slow your breathing and concentrate on your breathing so that you can calm yourself down.

If you find that your stress is out of control and these techniques are just not working enough for you, then you may want to talk to a therapist or counselor who is going to be able to talk with you and help you out here.

Stress Management Tips Online

If you are someone who finds that they are dealing with an awful lot of stress, then you may want to use the Internet so that you can find a stress management tip online. The Internet is a great resource for something like this and you can even take a stress management course right online to learn what you need to know here.

There are fortunately quite a few different online companies that you can go through if you are looking for a stress management tip, and which are going to help you keep your stress under control and help you to live a normal, happy life.

Tips for Coping With Stress

While there are a lot of different stress management tip ideas that you may want to try, there are a few in particular that have really proven to be effective and which you will want to try to help combat the stress in your own life. Recognizing your stressors is perhaps the most important tip of all when you are trying to learn how to deal with your stress.

If you are not able to understand the cause of your stress then you are really not going to have much success with finding relief of your stress.

Another helpful stress management tip is to take a deep breath. If you close your eyes and breathe in and out while counting to ten in your head, then you may find that you get almost immediate relief of your stress. Most people experience a panic attack sort of feeling, fight or flight, when they are dealing with so much stress, and with this stress management tip you are going to be able to calm yourself down and keep the stress from taking over.

These are all great stress management ideas, which you are definitely going to want to try if you find that you are having issues with stress in your life and need something to help you cope. Stress does not have to take over your life, and not only can it be annoying and a nuisance in your life if you let it go untreated, but as well you are putting your health in jeopardy because stress can have a hugely negative effect on your health.

Make sure that you let your doctor know you are under a lot of stress lately, and while do not have to feel inclined to start on any medication, there are ideas they may discuss with you.

Stress Management Technique: Find a Technique That Works

Stress management training is something that everyone should take the time to learn more about. Today we all deal with so much stress, whether it has to do with our professional or personal life or both, and to make sure that you do not let your stress spiral out of control and take over your life, you are going to need to learn about stress management technique ideas so that you can utilize these in your own life.

Technique Ideas

There are actually quite a few different stress management technique ideas that you could use, and a few stress management technique ideas that are usually really effective and which you are going to want to try. One of the best techniques is to breathe. You may think that this is too simple that it would not be enough to do anything, but that is actually not the case.

For this stress management technique you are going to want to just start to breathe in and out slowly whenever you start to feel that stress coming on and taking over. You really want to think about your breathing and focus only on that. Even if you are at work and have to leave the room so that you can be alone and think to yourself to stop the stress before you are going to become overcome by your stress.

This is definitely one of the easiest and best techniques for managing your stress that you could try, but there are a lot of others as well.

For instance there is this stress management technique that you can try, which is to talk to someone. This is of course the exact opposite of leaving a room and breathing slowly, but one that is also very effective. It really all depends on who you are and how you react to your stress in terms of which of these techniques is going to be best for you.

Dealing with stress is not something that is ever easy, but at least with the right techniques you know that you are going to be able to deal with it effectively and at least manage it and keep it under control so that you are not going to lose it. Try to prevent stress from happening in the future so that you can live a calm life and one that is happy and you can’t live a great life if you have too much stress.

A Guide to Stress Management

Stress is something that most people are used to dealing with. Whether it has to do with your job, personal issues, or any other aspect of your life, you should know that a bit of stress is normal in life and you should not be worried, but you will be able to tell when stress is starting to take over and when you need to do something about it.

Stress management is going to be a crucial factor if you are someone who is dealing with a higher than normal level of stress, and there are a few things to do with stress management in particular that you are going to want to learn more about.

What You Need to Know

So when it comes to stress management, the first thing is for you to learn a good stress management technique one that is going to be effective and work for you in your life. For instance, maybe you are someone who gets the stress management that you need by planning to go on a holiday every now and again.

For a lot of people this is enough, because it gives them something to look forward to and so they are able to deal with the stress in their life better and have a more lighthearted attitude overall. Not a lot of people are able to take a lot of time off work, but even if you can plan to have a weekend off and go for a stroll on the beach, you will be surprised at how huge an impact even the smallest things have in your life.

If you are someone who is the leader at their company for instance you are the boss at your job and so you really not able to take time off work, then at least make sure that you are not overworking yourself more than you have to. A lot of workers take on far too much, they think that they can handle it and then it just ends up stressing them out.

You really want to avoid this, and so make sure that you tell people no when you have to, if it means that you are going to get a break and not have to do everything that everyone is asking of you. This way you can get stress management and get your stress under control before it spirals out of control and you start to lose it.

Do You Stress over Your Asthma?

For those of us that experience severe asthma attacks on a regular basis, we realize that there is nothing that is quite as stressful. Even when we are not currently experiencing an asthma attack, it is probably something that we have on our mind and we may worry about the next time one comes along. After all, these asthma attacks can be life-threatening and even if they don’t take our life, they can stress us out to the extent that we are left feeling rather helpless. What you may not be aware of, however, is that the two of these different things may be related more than you realize.

Stress is something that all of us deal with and it is something that is built into us to help us to handle situations that may be a little bit uncomfortable to us. Some of us are able to handle stress rather easily and that we can get through the situations and then let the stress go. In the world in which we live, however, this is becoming increasingly difficult to do and many of us find that we are stressing out regularly over things that we don’t even have any control of. This can be very damaging to us, both mentally and physically. Why is that the case?

Researchers are coming to realize that stress plays a large role in how our overall health is going to react. It releases different chemicals into the body that are rather damaging and can cause a number of different illnesses. If a person is dealing with a serious illness, such as asthma, the stress that they experience may make the condition much worse. As a matter of fact, high levels of stress have been shown to be a trigger in causing an asthma attack which may add additional stress to us.

One of the things that you can do for yourself that will help you to deal with asthma effectively is to teach yourself how to deal with your stress effectively as well. This can be difficult to do but it is by no means impossible. Exercising regularly and making sure that you eat a proper diet are two things that you can do which will ease your mind and a lot of problems that you’re experiencing. You can also schedule time every day in order to relax and meditate. If you are able to overcome your stress, you may just experience less asthma as a result.

A question many have been asking lately is if stress can cause memory loss. The body reacts to deal with stress in many situations. Cortisol is a horomone that is released by the brain and it provides energy to your body to take action in our limbs and throughout our body.

Your stress has to be prevented. You can read about how to prevent memory loss from stress.

Since the hippocampus is robbed of its energy in such conditions, there are high possibilities of creating new memories at this point of time. If the hippocampus is exposed in such a way for a long time, then there are chances of short-term memory loss. The functions of the brain are deterred and loss of memory occurs in such times. Repeated exposure of the hippocampus damages it, and this is one of the earliest causes of Alzheimer’s at a later stage.

Because of all this stress can cause memory loss. Your body and brain should not be subjected to long periods of stress and it is important to control your stress levels. Stress effects the brain cells negatively and memory loss happens in the long run. It is important to keep the body free from as much stress as possible. Sometimes you can recover memories that were lost by continuous stress or brain damage but it is very difficult. If the brain was subjected to too much stress however your memories may be lost forever. Try to control your stress levels to prevent this from happening.

If you keep your stress under control then you are less likely to lose your memory.

Life’s upsets have invariably been a element in stress management and being able to manage with the strain that comes with adjustments that are often forces upon us. Life changes, in whatever form, can be dealth with in 1 of 2 ways – either it is received or it is not. Individuals are ever fearful of change that happens in their life-time and perhaps that is why some people grow to be stressed by it. Maybe it is the unforeseen that can stress Individuals out whenever change occurs in their lives and why there are so many unusual ways that Individuals react to change when it occurs.

The most popular response to change is shock and surprise, so when confronted by unanticipated circumstances such as unwanted incidents or other unplanned events, surprise appears to be the instant reaction for many. Such states of affairs make people realise that certain plans they have considered in life can oftentimes have some unexpected effects. The realisation that very little is eternal can be a beginning of stress for some people as change may come as a complete shock. Many individuals react to change with denial and decline to acknowledge it.

Often people will try to bring out certain values ready to reinforce that change is not a necessity but this may be a secondary reaction after the surprise and shock stage. From time to time, people move from surprise, and sometimes denial, to a logical apprehension of change and might see that change is actually needed in certain situations as there are grounds why it occurs.

Through this, people begin to learn how to find means on how to manage with the problem. Yet, at this point Individuals may still not be willing to have change affect their behavior but preferably find some means to repair the situation instead. Change can sometimes lead people to respond in two assorted ways. At a certain point, the situation may reach a level where it becomes a crisis and when this place is reached, Individuals may either swallow it or avoid it completely.

When Individuals discover to swallow change, irrespective how painful, they are no longer affected by the stress that occurs with it as much as those that may wish to avoid or ignore it. Fending off evident changes, especially the embarrassing ones, can sometimes lead to additional stress in many people. Trying to fight one’s own way in handling change instead of admitting it can sometimes be a lost cause and struggles, both internal and external, may arise causing considerable stress to many people.

It is only after discovering how to admit change that the tension caused by the burden of denial and refusal to admit it, it will be released. Stress management works by being capable to comprehend and learn about how People deal with changes. Knowing the assorted reactions and the phases that people go through with change can help people get a better appreciation of dealing with the results of change with less stress.

If you suffered from ongoing stress and anxiety what would you look for as a solution? Would you look for drugs or would you look for a more natural stress relief alternative? It might surprise you that natural remedies are becoming more and more popular.

These remedies are well-known throughout the world because they’ve been around for a long, long time. Their ingredients are organic so they usually have few or no side-effects. Also, they’re non-addictive, one big advantage over drugs. But there’s another.

Herbal supplements work with your body to maintain its chemical balance while drugs change that chemical balance in order to hide your symptoms. Drugs do nothing to strengthen your nervous system, but herbal remedies do. And when your body is stronger and functioning more properly, you’re able to cope with your stress and anxiety much better.

Herbal remedies are much easier on your body than prescription drugs. Their effects are cumulative not abrupt. This means it will take longer for you to see their effects but those effects will also be longer lasting. That’s a small price to pay for a supplement that’s non-addictive.

The usefulness of herbal remedies isn’t just theory either. There have been many studies done on the effectiveness of different botanical products and herbs in the treatment of many ailments, not just anxiety or stress. Laboratories across the world have proven that natural herbal remedies do work.

In particular, herbs like Valerian and Lemon Balm have been proven to have strong anti-anxiety, calming properties. Passion Flower and Kava are known for their sedative effects. And there are several more, used by themselves or in conjunction with others that produce very positive effects on your mood.

You can find nearly all of these supplements fairly easily at your health food store. And you’ll also find that they come in different varieties and formulations. Take Valerian for instance. You can usually find it sold as a tea, a tincture, or even in capsule form. There’s a lot of variety to choose from.

So if you think your body needs a little bit of help coping with the daily stress and anxiety you experience, natural stress relief remedies are a good way to go. There’s a wide variety to choose from, they’re easy to find, and they’re non-addictive. They’re a great alternative to drugs.

We live in stressful times and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Combating stress is a skill that we can learn in order to maximize quality of life. One of the most effective ways to do this is through cognitive redirection and focusing on positives rather than negatives. Acknowledging good fortune in our lives and not allowing problems and setbacks to dominate our outlook is an important and simple way to deal with stress.

Many times it’s just easier to be ungrateful about the things we do not have instead of being grateful for the positive things we have been dealt or what we have achieved. These positive parts of our lives are often overlooked and taken for granted until some sort of disaster hits. All too often we can forget about having a roof over our heads, a warm bed and even a hot shower. Once we can identify those things for which we have to be grateful for, we have the perfect exercise for positive thinking, and it could actually change our feelings towards stress as well as balancing out the related effects.

The factors causing stress are many, but it is defined as a state where an individual is not in equilibrium with their individual surroundings. It is known to us now that the distinction between both body and mind is of limited usefulness. Negative thoughts are able to have an affect on the body, just as trauma can affect the mind. Experiences of stress prompting negative emotions may have a direct affect when it comes to body chemistry. In response to any threat or stress, our bodies produce hormones and other chemicals, such as adrenalin and cortisol.

We are fortunate enough to have the opposite apply as well. Any calm environment and/or positive thoughts are able to combat both the physical and mental effects of stress. Taking a little time out of every day to concentrate on the positive – even a small period of time as little as five minutes – you can easily separate yourself from stressors and their effects.

The need to recognize those bursts of good fortune can have a radical effect on our perspective. Problems have a tendency to cast a dark cloud so to speak over the parts of our lives that are going well and distorting our perspective on things. Let’s take for example that sense of panic we feel when tasks are uncompleted instead of giving ourselves some praise over what we did accomplish. When the period of stress is prolonged or extended, it is entirely possible for us to develop unhealthy patterns of jumping automatically to a negative conclusion. By focusing on those things that make us happy is a very powerful technique we can use to overcome that pattern of thinking negatively, thereby reducing stress as well as giving a boost to the immune system.

It may initially be difficult to identify those particular things you have to be grateful for, especially if you are already stressed, tense and can’t see the forest for the trees. Take time to practice, and start with easy things such as a sunny day, or a new rose on your bushes. You will more than likely rely on hindsight to start, but with time and a little effort you will notice it becoming easier.

While training yourself to recognize the many reasons you have to be grateful, the amount of time you spend taking things for granted will lessen dramatically. Seeing that flower blooming will trigger the recognition for seeing the reasons for celebration. As this appreciation integrates into your daily routine and functionality you can, and will discover how this process will reinforce positive thinking as well as your capacity to deal with stress.

Changes to our life have incessantly been a component in managing stress and being fit to deal with the strain that comes with change. Life adjustments, in any form, can be dealth with in one of two ways – either it is received or it is unwelcome. Individuals are ever fearful of change that occurs in their life-time and perchance that is why some people grow to be nervous by it. Possibly it is the unpredicted that can stress Individuals out whenever change occurs in their life-time and why there are so many different ways that people react to change when it happens.

The most frequent response to change is shock and surprise, so when presented by unpredicted situations such as unwanted incidents or other unplanned events, surprise appears to be the first reaction for many. Such states of affairs make people realize that particular plans they have made in life can often have some unexpected effects. The realization that nothing is enduring can be a source of stress for some people as change may come as a complete surprise. Some people respond to change with denial and decline to accept it.

Then again, some Individuals will attempt to bring out particular values in order to support that change is not needed but this may be a secondary reaction after the surprise and shock stage. At times, people move from surprise, and often denial, to a logical understanding of change and may observe that change is in reality needed in particular situations because there are reasons why it goes on. Through this, people begin to see how to find ways on how to manage with the situation. Still, at this point Individuals may still not be willing to have change affect their behavior but rather find some ways to amend the situation instead. Change can sometimes lead Individuals to react in two assorted ways. At a particular point, the state of affairs may get to a level where it becomes a crisis and when this place is reached, Individuals may either accept it or avoid it altogether.

When people discover to accept change, regardless how harsh, they are no longer impacted by the stress that comes with it as much as those that may wish to avoid or ignore it. Heading off plain changes, particularly the painful ones, can sometimes lead to extra stress in many Individuals. Trying to fight one’s personal way in dealing with change instead of admitting it can sometimes be a lost cause and conflicts, both internal and external, may arise inducing considerable tension to many individuals.

It is only after learning how to admit change that the stress caused by the burden of self-denial and refusal to admit it, it will be released. Stress management functions by being competent to understand and discover about how People deal with changes. Being conscious the assorted reactions and the phases that Individuals go through with change can assist people get a better appreciation of managing with the results of change with less stress.

I have fortunately happened upon a effective self help anxiety technique. Its easy and best of all successful! Life is full of stress for this parent of a teen – actually if you look up stress in the dictionary I am sure you will see a picture of a teenager. So any healthy ways of relieving stress are hugely beneficial.

One of the best ways I know on how to prevent stress is to get centered. What does that mean? It means different things for different people. Everyone has different ways to get centered, and as soon as you can figure out what your way or ways are, you can start implementing this stress reducing technique.

Where does stress come from?

In my opinion, our lives are spinning so quickly and are so intricate, that we quickly become out-of-control. It is in that place out-of-controlness that we become stressed. It doesn’t mean our whole life is off kilter, maybe just an area or two, like kids, health, money. But those areas can be just as if not more stressful than you can believe!

How about some stress reducing techniques?

Reducing stress is an indepth process. But handling it, is not so much. Getting centered is just such a way.

Tell me how to get centered.

It basically means to find a way to give yourself a sense of control over something in your life. It doesn’t have to be huge, trust me! It might not even be anything that is not in control, but just something you can have control over for that moment. It will do amazing things to your relieve your stress.

Where do I start?

Okay, what can you do that is calming or quieting and where you can feel you have completion when you are done? I do a couple of things to get centered – one is to mow the grass. Much to my kids chagrin, NOT!, I will never pass this chore down to them. Only to train them a time or two, but its mine, baby all mine! I feel so right after I am done mowing, just looking at that perfectly manicured lawn. I am centered.

I also feel immensely centered when I make the bed. That’s right – nice tight corners and smooth sheets and blankets tucked in snugly. It brings me right into center. My wife loves this one especially.

My wife also has her own way of reducing anxiety and stress. When her life is spinning out-of-control, you will find her muttering under the laundry room seek as she digs out the Windex and paper towels. She cleans the sliding glass door with a vengeance and then a smile. She is centered.

Every paper clip has its place!

I know of a corporate bigwig who got centered by going through his paper clips and sorting the small ones from the large ones. When his secretary offered to do this mundane job for him, he politely declined. He knew this little secret kept him centered and at the top of his game!

So there you go. Is your life out-of-control? Well, figure out what gets you centered, and you’re well on your way to figuring out how to prevent stress.

There is no one who finds their teenage years a stress free or easy time. Adolescent stress is common and can be linked to any number of different factors. There are the hormonal shifts which mark puberty, learning to deal with their developing minds, bodies and emotions and the pressure associated with realizing that they are growing up and starting to make choices about their lives. All of these things can cause an adolescent stress and anxiety.

All of the following situations or events are stressful for adolescents:

- parents separating

- moving

- starting at a new school

- death in the family

- conflicts with their teachers, their parents or their classmates

- starting or ending their early romantic and/or sexual relationships

- having sex for the first time

- family problems, including an illness in the family

- their family experiencing financial problems

- living in a neighborhood which is dangerous

- the physical changes to their bodies which accompany puberty

- being pressured to succeed atcademically (by teachers, parents, peers or themselves)

- low self esteem and a poor self image

Of course, all of these things could cause stress in adults too. Adolescents, however have less control over their lives and tend to cope with stress differently than do adults.

Every teenager experiences stress. They may show this by:

- irritability and mood swings

- anxiety, worrying

- withdrawal, avoiding other people

- drug or alcohol use

- physical illness

There are methods which adolescents can use to control stress. So0me give teens near-immediate relief from stress but others are a long term strategy to achieve stable hormonal levels and emotional balance.

- watching or reading something humorous

- listen to music which relaxes you

- talking with close friends and playing with pets

- get regular exercise

- eat healthily, including a variety of vegetables in your diet

- avoid stimulants and other chemicals (coffee, tea, cola, chocolate, sugar, tobacco, alcohol and drugs), especially when experiencing stress

- learning relaxation techniques, including deep breathing

- practice yoga, tai chi or meditation

- learning to communicate with others in a way which is assertive but not threatening. This involves learning to clearly communicate how you feel or what you want

- if you do not know where to start with a task, break it down into smaller parts and do them one by one

- stop negative thinking in its tracks and replace it with positive affirmations

- do not indulge in imagining all the bad things that might happen

If you’re experiencing a lot of stress and you are finding your quality of life or even your physical health negatively affected, you may benefit from stress management training. This training will teach you some of the techniques listed above and help you learn to reduce stress almost as soon as it arises.

Keep in mind that a certain degree of stress is only natural and we all experience it at times. What matters is how you deal with stress ? adolescent stress does not have to overshadow everything else in your life.

by Terryann Niemeyer

One of the most important substances for directing cellular communication within the body is Nitric Oxide. Some of the busy cells that it directs are brain, blood, and immune system cells.

It’s been proven that many of the diseases associated with aging are caused by a Nitric Oxide deficiency. In fact, NO (nitric oxide) is so important that the organs in your body can’t function without it. It prevents blood clots and atherosclerosis from developing, helps fight off infections, allows us to think clearly, and even keeps our blood pressure normal.

A study looking at Nitric oxide activity was recently conducted on adaptogens and adaptogen blends. Some blends were found to contain natural nitric oxide metabolites. These metabolites help normalize the balance of Nitric oxide in the human body. High levels of antioxidants along with molecules that could adapt to stress were also identified in certain formulas.

Adaptogens are unique plants that thrive in some of the harshest environments in the world, the Tunguska area of Siberia is one of them. They have the ability to create a balance in the human body, allowing cells to adjust to stress. A Russian scientist, Dr. Nicholai Lazarev, discovered 10 plants that fit into this category called adaptogens.

Dr. Lazarev defined an “adaptogen” as a plant or herb that increases the body’s natural resistance to stress such as trauma, anxiety, and fatigue. After a few years, a man by the name of Professor Brekhman said that an adaptogen is a substance that has a “normalizing” effect on the whole body, rather than on just a specific organ.

Stress, poor nutrition, and pollution can all steal our Nitric Oxide. As we grow older, it becomes harder for our body to produce Nitric Oxide. Eating right, sufficient sleep, and being active, all help our body by increasing our Nitric Oxide reserves.

There is a long list of ailments related to insufficient Nitric Oxide within the body. Elevated blood pressure, Alzheimers, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, are just a few.

In every case it seems that the higher we can raise the nitric oxide levels, the better the patient responds. Restoring nitric oxide production has become one of the main strategies of treating and protecting against many diseases.

It makes sense that certain adaptogen formulas would activate a high amount of nitric oxide because research has revealed that most high-antioxidant foods nourish NO. Adaptogens can help us combat stress, a nitric oxide killer. They are an effective form of Stress Treatment .

The amount of NO in some adaptogen formulas has been shown to help protect against vascular inflammation, reduce injury from a heart attack or stroke and restore NO homeostasis (a sense of balance) in animal models.

Individual adaptogens and adaptogen blends can usually be found at health food stores. Some of the blends that have been determined to be the most effective in the treatment of stress, actually have clinical studies to back them up.

Stress is part of everyone’s life and can cause problems with your health. Finance and money are frequently among the first of the stresses that most people feel. However, families and work are also a frequent cause of stress and tension. Use the following tips to ensure that you deal with your stress in a healthy way.

Examine the source of your stress.

See if you can make changes in the areas of your life where you are feeling stress.

Find ways to relax such as massage, deep breathing, meditation, or yoga.

Exercise or other physical activity will help you deal with stress

Practice time management. Put your tasks into a priority list. When you make your list take into account yourself, your family, and your job. Using a check list will give you satisfaction when you complete a task.

Avoid sugar, fats, tobacco, caffeine, and alcohol to help your body and mind to cope with stress.

It is important to get enough sleep.

Professional counselors and support groups will help if you have something bothering you. Your family and friends are also usually there to help you.

Volunteering can give you a sense of purpose and increase your self esteem and reduce your stress.

Take some personal time. This can include reading a book, watching a movie, listening to music, or any other personal time that you enjoy.

Practice anger management. If you feel that you have problems dealing with you anger find a support group that you can join.

Take a vacation, no matter how short a time you can afford to get away.

Don’t take on too much at one time. Learn to take it easy.

Remember that nobody is perfect.

Try not to judge others harshly.

Laugh whenever you can, even at yourself now and then.

Move your head from side to side and rotate you neck in a circle to reduce the tension in your neck and jaw.

Set small and smart goals for yourself and then work carefully and realistically towards achieving them. Keep in mind that unrealistic goals never seem to be reached and this can add to your stress level. Try to set just goal for yourself this week by using the SMART approach:

SPECIFIC: Choose one little goal and write it down.

MEASURABLE: How will you know when it is done?

ACHIEVABLE: Is it realistic? If not, make it smaller.

REWARDED: Reward yourself when you reach your goal.

TIME-LIMITED: In order to be a SMART goal it must have a realistic finish date and time.

The most effective stress reliever for your body is laughter. Learn to laugh or turn to funny movies or tv shows to provide some relief from stress. Be ready to use laughter for stress management.

Cope with stress by going for a walk. If the stress is at work, go for a walk at lunchtime. Walking will give you time to look at the situation that is causing you a problem. Any other exercise will also help with stress relief.

This period of worry will ultimately come to an end, quite a lot of us spend time worrying about something that happens in our lives but for many of us however. However this does not mean that everyone is in the clear and that everyone has the right to live a worry free life. There are individuals who devote most of their lives to their worries which are a component of their anxiety symptoms and form an endless cycle which may lead to anxiety disorder.

Stop Anxiety Attacks
Surprisingly anxiety is not known as a physical disorder, instead it is referred to as a mental disorder. Symptoms of anxiety may be exhibited physically as well as emotionally or mentally. When our brain alerts us to a immediate perceived threat, an anxiety order may occur. In this situation your body will ready itself for a fight or flight reaction. Your heart, lungs and other parts of your body will work faster and produce stress hormones and adrenaline to cope with that time period.

Anxiety Attack Cure
This in turn can activate diarrhea, rapid heartbeat, abdominal discomfort, palpitations, shortness of breath, tightness and pain in the chest region, dizziness, difficulty swallowing and even frequent urination. Anxiety disorders can cause severe physical as well as mental problems.

Panic Attack Treatments
To concentrate on various day to day tasks, a fear of madness, a fear of losing your mind and mental faculties, as well as the sense of being detached from reality and not having the ability to control your actions, when the psychological anxiety symptoms on the other hand include insomnia, irritability and anger that makes the inability.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr2sgj1i4sU

You may experience emotional symptoms too, besides the anxiety symptoms. Your present situation set aside you will always feel as if you are at unease and not able to rest. Pressure at work, family issues and disagreements with friends are some of the many stressful situations that can lead to someone experiencing anxiety. Then your anxiety symptoms may rear their heads due to being anxious about an illness, real or imagined. Dangerous threats will always trigger a response from your body. Can and will increase your anxiety symptoms dramatically, all of these emotional stresses.Your doctor must be able to diagnose your complaint, when you first experience anxiety. It is up to your doctor to determine if your condition is in fact mental or medical, do not relay on yourself or friends to let you know. Once you have been identified as having an anxiety disorder, treatment to cure or control your condition may be begun.

If they are of a prolonged or severe state or if the feelings of anxiety come into existence and when there is nothing dangerous or stressful to bring them about, the symptoms started above may be considered as anxiety symptoms. Then if these anxiety symptoms start to interfere with your everyday life and activities like work or social events then you know for certain that you are suffering from anxiety disorder.

Although you might suspect yourself to be suffering from anxiety symptoms it’s always a good idea to get your self-diagnosis confirmed by a qualified medical practitioner who can then start you on the proper course to cure you.

In today’s world, many people are victims of causes of stress, a condition that tends to control body and mind. There seems to be nothing that can be done about it. Many individuals are stressed out at work; there never seems to be enough time to do all the things that are supposed to be done. As the days go by, these workaholics end up being more depressed than ever, they even fear going to work.

Another place where people are usually stressed out is at home. As a parent it’s sometimes hard to cope with the needs of an entire family. Not only they have to cater for the house but also for the children. The latter, on the other hand, don’t always appreciate what their parents are trying to do for them trying to keep the family together. They also end up depressed since they don’t always get what they want. One of the most classical elements that is a causes of stress is connected to sentimental or emotional issues.

At times it’s hard to identify the real causes of stress in an individual, and the bad thing is that there’s no easy way out. Everyone has a problem or two they would like to solve. There are many factors that cause stress and the first thing to do before anything else is to try and identify where your stress is coming from. Once you have identified the cause of your stress, then you can start working on eliminating it.

When you finally discover what’s stressing you then you can find out how to deal with the problem. There might be a problem at school and you can’t seem to cope with the homework or understanding what the teacher is explaining. The best thing to do is talk to your teacher and your parents and focus on the problem instead of pretending that everything is OK. You may be one of those numerous students that send application forms for college hoping to be accepted but are rejected. There may be a crisis situation at work where you don’t get along with some of your colleagues leading to a stressful situation. What you have to do here is first of all find out the reason for this. So instead of keeping it inside of you, try to focus on the issue and straighten things out.

When you are feeling stressed out and the world seems to be falling down, separating yourself from the problem and focusing on it to find a remedy is not as simple as it seems. You need to take it easy; take time to relax. Focus on the problem and above all be patient. Some don’t have all that patience and end up stressing themselves even more.

Summarizing, when you are in a stressful situation the one thing you must avoid is to close yourself up and run away from the situation that is stressing you. This is not going to make you feel better and the result is that you will be even more stressed and frustrated than before. What you should do instead is focus on the problem and then you will surely feel better.

Almost all people all over the world has fear but why is it that there are those who can tackle all kinds of rejection and fear? Have you heard of Manny Pacquiao, that Filipino boxer who already has four world-boxing titles wrapped around his waist? What about that unknown soldier who died in Iwo Jima half a century ago? What about that successful businessman who was extremely rich and retired from his own company feeling satisfied? Don’t they have fear, panic or anxiety? Of course, they have and no humans can’t live without them. But between them and the rest of the world, they only have one thing in their minds why they succeed, they now how to control their anxiety. Sad to say, some of us don’t have the ability to control our fear and instead of controlling this mental condition, it is the other way around. We tend to let fear control us and that’s why, we need some kind of outside solution to help us control our uncontrollable fear and right now, one of the most popular solution that people have come up with is a sort of Panic Portal natural remedy.

Before you can get to get rid of panic attacks or whatever, you should get to know fear first. Actually, fear is an acronym, F.E.A.R., and no, it’s not that video game entitled First Encounter Assault Recon team but it’s actually False Expectations Appearing Real. Yes, you read it right. Some of the fear that is deep within the hearts of men is just false expectations. Here is a good example: A salesman is doing some sort of tele-marketing, calling up a prospect that is already in his list and he’s been dreaming about closing a sale with this big-time business mogul that can help him make millions once this deal is closed. So, he called this manufacturer and while the phone is ringing and he’s waiting for someone to answer at the end of the line, a series of thoughts came into his mind. “What if he tells me he’s busy? What if he refuses? Can I handle such rejection? What if…”? After this, you should try to read a Panic Away review.

So, that’s basically it. It’s not really bad to go panicky and all. Everybody needs to panic once in a while and it can be advantageous to you, that is, if you know how to handle and control itSometimes, the feeling of panic can help anyone get out of any mess that he is in. His mind will race beyond 300 mph trying to think of a way to resolve a problem or beat a deadline. It is beneficial for someone to panic especially when lives are in danger, like, say, in an apartment building fire. He needs to find a way to get his family to safety without causing further misfortunes. But the only thing that can be hazardous is when those panic attacks start to control him and he can’t seem to find a way out. As what have said before, there are many solutions for panic attacks and some of them come in the form of medication but bear in mind. Panic attacks are not diseases or illnesses, they are mental conditions. Don’t go for medicines. While medicines do exist to help prevent an attack, or calm a person down during an attack; being dependent on such medicines is usually not encouraged, especially since some of the side effects of the medicines can be very undesirable. What you need is to change your lifestyle, get some exercises, for example, to help reduce stress and if you do need help, get help from a natural therapy. You can read these Panic Away reviews after this to know what the best therapy for learning how to control panic attacks is.
