Life’s upsets have invariably been a element in stress management and being able to manage with the strain that comes with adjustments that are often forces upon us. Life changes, in whatever form, can be dealth with in 1 of 2 ways – either it is received or it is not. Individuals are ever fearful of change that happens in their life-time and perhaps that is why some people grow to be stressed by it. Maybe it is the unforeseen that can stress Individuals out whenever change occurs in their lives and why there are so many unusual ways that Individuals react to change when it occurs.

The most popular response to change is shock and surprise, so when confronted by unanticipated circumstances such as unwanted incidents or other unplanned events, surprise appears to be the instant reaction for many. Such states of affairs make people realise that certain plans they have considered in life can oftentimes have some unexpected effects. The realisation that very little is eternal can be a beginning of stress for some people as change may come as a complete shock. Many individuals react to change with denial and decline to acknowledge it.

Often people will try to bring out certain values ready to reinforce that change is not a necessity but this may be a secondary reaction after the surprise and shock stage. From time to time, people move from surprise, and sometimes denial, to a logical apprehension of change and might see that change is actually needed in certain situations as there are grounds why it occurs.

Through this, people begin to learn how to find means on how to manage with the problem. Yet, at this point Individuals may still not be willing to have change affect their behavior but preferably find some means to repair the situation instead. Change can sometimes lead people to respond in two assorted ways. At a certain point, the situation may reach a level where it becomes a crisis and when this place is reached, Individuals may either swallow it or avoid it completely.

When Individuals discover to swallow change, irrespective how painful, they are no longer affected by the stress that occurs with it as much as those that may wish to avoid or ignore it. Fending off evident changes, especially the embarrassing ones, can sometimes lead to additional stress in many people. Trying to fight one’s own way in handling change instead of admitting it can sometimes be a lost cause and struggles, both internal and external, may arise causing considerable stress to many people.

It is only after discovering how to admit change that the tension caused by the burden of denial and refusal to admit it, it will be released. Stress management works by being capable to comprehend and learn about how People deal with changes. Knowing the assorted reactions and the phases that people go through with change can help people get a better appreciation of dealing with the results of change with less stress.

If you suffered from ongoing stress and anxiety what would you look for as a solution? Would you look for drugs or would you look for a more natural stress relief alternative? It might surprise you that natural remedies are becoming more and more popular.

These remedies are well-known throughout the world because they’ve been around for a long, long time. Their ingredients are organic so they usually have few or no side-effects. Also, they’re non-addictive, one big advantage over drugs. But there’s another.

Herbal supplements work with your body to maintain its chemical balance while drugs change that chemical balance in order to hide your symptoms. Drugs do nothing to strengthen your nervous system, but herbal remedies do. And when your body is stronger and functioning more properly, you’re able to cope with your stress and anxiety much better.

Herbal remedies are much easier on your body than prescription drugs. Their effects are cumulative not abrupt. This means it will take longer for you to see their effects but those effects will also be longer lasting. That’s a small price to pay for a supplement that’s non-addictive.

The usefulness of herbal remedies isn’t just theory either. There have been many studies done on the effectiveness of different botanical products and herbs in the treatment of many ailments, not just anxiety or stress. Laboratories across the world have proven that natural herbal remedies do work.

In particular, herbs like Valerian and Lemon Balm have been proven to have strong anti-anxiety, calming properties. Passion Flower and Kava are known for their sedative effects. And there are several more, used by themselves or in conjunction with others that produce very positive effects on your mood.

You can find nearly all of these supplements fairly easily at your health food store. And you’ll also find that they come in different varieties and formulations. Take Valerian for instance. You can usually find it sold as a tea, a tincture, or even in capsule form. There’s a lot of variety to choose from.

So if you think your body needs a little bit of help coping with the daily stress and anxiety you experience, natural stress relief remedies are a good way to go. There’s a wide variety to choose from, they’re easy to find, and they’re non-addictive. They’re a great alternative to drugs.

by Matt Hellstrom

I have fortunately happened upon a effective self help anxiety technique. Its easy and best of all successful! Life is full of stress for this parent of a teen – actually if you look up stress in the dictionary I am sure you will see a picture of a teenager. So any healthy ways of relieving stress are hugely beneficial.

One of the best ways I know on how to prevent stress is to get centered. What does that mean? It means different things for different people. Everyone has different ways to get centered, and as soon as you can figure out what your way or ways are, you can start implementing this stress reducing technique.

Where does stress come from?

In my opinion, our lives are spinning so quickly and are so intricate, that we quickly become out-of-control. It is in that place out-of-controlness that we become stressed. It doesn’t mean our whole life is off kilter, maybe just an area or two, like kids, health, money. But those areas can be just as if not more stressful than you can believe!

How about some stress reducing techniques?

Reducing stress is an indepth process. But handling it, is not so much. Getting centered is just such a way.

Tell me how to get centered.

It basically means to find a way to give yourself a sense of control over something in your life. It doesn’t have to be huge, trust me! It might not even be anything that is not in control, but just something you can have control over for that moment. It will do amazing things to your relieve your stress.

Where do I start?

Okay, what can you do that is calming or quieting and where you can feel you have completion when you are done? I do a couple of things to get centered – one is to mow the grass. Much to my kids chagrin, NOT!, I will never pass this chore down to them. Only to train them a time or two, but its mine, baby all mine! I feel so right after I am done mowing, just looking at that perfectly manicured lawn. I am centered.

I also feel immensely centered when I make the bed. That’s right – nice tight corners and smooth sheets and blankets tucked in snugly. It brings me right into center. My wife loves this one especially.

My wife also has her own way of reducing anxiety and stress. When her life is spinning out-of-control, you will find her muttering under the laundry room seek as she digs out the Windex and paper towels. She cleans the sliding glass door with a vengeance and then a smile. She is centered.

Every paper clip has its place!

I know of a corporate bigwig who got centered by going through his paper clips and sorting the small ones from the large ones. When his secretary offered to do this mundane job for him, he politely declined. He knew this little secret kept him centered and at the top of his game!

So there you go. Is your life out-of-control? Well, figure out what gets you centered, and you’re well on your way to figuring out how to prevent stress.

There is no one who finds their teenage years a stress free or easy time. Adolescent stress is common and can be linked to any number of different factors. There are the hormonal shifts which mark puberty, learning to deal with their developing minds, bodies and emotions and the pressure associated with realizing that they are growing up and starting to make choices about their lives. All of these things can cause an adolescent stress and anxiety.

All of the following situations or events are stressful for adolescents:

- parents separating

- moving

- starting at a new school

- death in the family

- conflicts with their teachers, their parents or their classmates

- starting or ending their early romantic and/or sexual relationships

- having sex for the first time

- family problems, including an illness in the family

- their family experiencing financial problems

- living in a neighborhood which is dangerous

- the physical changes to their bodies which accompany puberty

- being pressured to succeed atcademically (by teachers, parents, peers or themselves)

- low self esteem and a poor self image

Of course, all of these things could cause stress in adults too. Adolescents, however have less control over their lives and tend to cope with stress differently than do adults.

Every teenager experiences stress. They may show this by:

- irritability and mood swings

- anxiety, worrying

- withdrawal, avoiding other people

- drug or alcohol use

- physical illness

There are methods which adolescents can use to control stress. So0me give teens near-immediate relief from stress but others are a long term strategy to achieve stable hormonal levels and emotional balance.

- watching or reading something humorous

- listen to music which relaxes you

- talking with close friends and playing with pets

- get regular exercise

- eat healthily, including a variety of vegetables in your diet

- avoid stimulants and other chemicals (coffee, tea, cola, chocolate, sugar, tobacco, alcohol and drugs), especially when experiencing stress

- learning relaxation techniques, including deep breathing

- practice yoga, tai chi or meditation

- learning to communicate with others in a way which is assertive but not threatening. This involves learning to clearly communicate how you feel or what you want

- if you do not know where to start with a task, break it down into smaller parts and do them one by one

- stop negative thinking in its tracks and replace it with positive affirmations

- do not indulge in imagining all the bad things that might happen

If you’re experiencing a lot of stress and you are finding your quality of life or even your physical health negatively affected, you may benefit from stress management training. This training will teach you some of the techniques listed above and help you learn to reduce stress almost as soon as it arises.

Keep in mind that a certain degree of stress is only natural and we all experience it at times. What matters is how you deal with stress ? adolescent stress does not have to overshadow everything else in your life.

One of the most important substances for directing cellular communication within the body is Nitric Oxide. Some of the busy cells that it directs are brain, blood, and immune system cells.

It’s been proven that many of the diseases associated with aging are caused by a Nitric Oxide deficiency. In fact, NO (nitric oxide) is so important that the organs in your body can’t function without it. It prevents blood clots and atherosclerosis from developing, helps fight off infections, allows us to think clearly, and even keeps our blood pressure normal.

A study looking at Nitric oxide activity was recently conducted on adaptogens and adaptogen blends. Some blends were found to contain natural nitric oxide metabolites. These metabolites help normalize the balance of Nitric oxide in the human body. High levels of antioxidants along with molecules that could adapt to stress were also identified in certain formulas.

Adaptogens are unique plants that thrive in some of the harshest environments in the world, the Tunguska area of Siberia is one of them. They have the ability to create a balance in the human body, allowing cells to adjust to stress. A Russian scientist, Dr. Nicholai Lazarev, discovered 10 plants that fit into this category called adaptogens.

Dr. Lazarev defined an “adaptogen” as a plant or herb that increases the body’s natural resistance to stress such as trauma, anxiety, and fatigue. After a few years, a man by the name of Professor Brekhman said that an adaptogen is a substance that has a “normalizing” effect on the whole body, rather than on just a specific organ.

Stress, poor nutrition, and pollution can all steal our Nitric Oxide. As we grow older, it becomes harder for our body to produce Nitric Oxide. Eating right, sufficient sleep, and being active, all help our body by increasing our Nitric Oxide reserves.

There is a long list of ailments related to insufficient Nitric Oxide within the body. Elevated blood pressure, Alzheimers, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, are just a few.

In every case it seems that the higher we can raise the nitric oxide levels, the better the patient responds. Restoring nitric oxide production has become one of the main strategies of treating and protecting against many diseases.

It makes sense that certain adaptogen formulas would activate a high amount of nitric oxide because research has revealed that most high-antioxidant foods nourish NO. Adaptogens can help us combat stress, a nitric oxide killer. They are an effective form of Stress Treatment .

The amount of NO in some adaptogen formulas has been shown to help protect against vascular inflammation, reduce injury from a heart attack or stroke and restore NO homeostasis (a sense of balance) in animal models.

Individual adaptogens and adaptogen blends can usually be found at health food stores. Some of the blends that have been determined to be the most effective in the treatment of stress, actually have clinical studies to back them up.

This period of worry will ultimately come to an end, quite a lot of us spend time worrying about something that happens in our lives but for many of us however. However this does not mean that everyone is in the clear and that everyone has the right to live a worry free life. There are individuals who devote most of their lives to their worries which are a component of their anxiety symptoms and form an endless cycle which may lead to anxiety disorder.

Stop Anxiety Attacks
Surprisingly anxiety is not known as a physical disorder, instead it is referred to as a mental disorder. Symptoms of anxiety may be exhibited physically as well as emotionally or mentally. When our brain alerts us to a immediate perceived threat, an anxiety order may occur. In this situation your body will ready itself for a fight or flight reaction. Your heart, lungs and other parts of your body will work faster and produce stress hormones and adrenaline to cope with that time period.

Anxiety Attack Cure
This in turn can activate diarrhea, rapid heartbeat, abdominal discomfort, palpitations, shortness of breath, tightness and pain in the chest region, dizziness, difficulty swallowing and even frequent urination. Anxiety disorders can cause severe physical as well as mental problems.

Panic Attack Treatments
To concentrate on various day to day tasks, a fear of madness, a fear of losing your mind and mental faculties, as well as the sense of being detached from reality and not having the ability to control your actions, when the psychological anxiety symptoms on the other hand include insomnia, irritability and anger that makes the inability.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr2sgj1i4sU

You may experience emotional symptoms too, besides the anxiety symptoms. Your present situation set aside you will always feel as if you are at unease and not able to rest. Pressure at work, family issues and disagreements with friends are some of the many stressful situations that can lead to someone experiencing anxiety. Then your anxiety symptoms may rear their heads due to being anxious about an illness, real or imagined. Dangerous threats will always trigger a response from your body. Can and will increase your anxiety symptoms dramatically, all of these emotional stresses.Your doctor must be able to diagnose your complaint, when you first experience anxiety. It is up to your doctor to determine if your condition is in fact mental or medical, do not relay on yourself or friends to let you know. Once you have been identified as having an anxiety disorder, treatment to cure or control your condition may be begun.

If they are of a prolonged or severe state or if the feelings of anxiety come into existence and when there is nothing dangerous or stressful to bring them about, the symptoms started above may be considered as anxiety symptoms. Then if these anxiety symptoms start to interfere with your everyday life and activities like work or social events then you know for certain that you are suffering from anxiety disorder.

Although you might suspect yourself to be suffering from anxiety symptoms it’s always a good idea to get your self-diagnosis confirmed by a qualified medical practitioner who can then start you on the proper course to cure you.

Anyone who has been misfortunate enough suffer the unpleasantness of panic attacks will have no problem relating to the anxiety build up prior to a panic attack, or even worse, a full scale panic attack in front of family or friends -who were unaware that you were suffering from the condition in the first place.

My anxiety build up’s were quite random to start with, well prior to my first few panic attacks anyway; that’s when I became consciously aware of the anxiety symptoms that I was going through and more importantly, what they would quickly lead to if they were not controlled or addressed, unfortunately for me, I took to long to accept that Panic Attacks affected me. Looking back, if I had accepted I was suffering anxiety and panic attacks, I could of found help and move on, because there is a solution to this horrible condition.

My first anxiety problems started after a fall out with several of my best friends at school, this affected me quite bad as I had never been involved in a fall out with friends to this extent. Within just a few weeks I found that sleeping at night was getting really hard, unwanted thoughts would eat away at my brain, going round and round my head keeping me awake into the small hours. I did not want to get up in the mornings, I found that I was avoiding hanging out with friends and just felt nervous far too often and for no reason.

Then came my first panic attack; I was driving at the time and remember thinking about the fall out that had happened a couple of months before. The symptoms were classic anxiety looking back now, thought eating away at me, heart beating ten to the dozen, I remember thinking that it was hard to breath properly, I was not aware of what was going on around me, even though I was driving at the time, that’s when it started, my first panic attack. The first I knew about it at the time was when a women had her hand on my shoulder telling me to relax, breath deep and slow. How embarrassing could that be, I had stopped at red lights and just totally lost control of myself.

The women (Jade) was really kind and stopped with me for quite a while whilst I regained my composure, she gave me her contact details because she understood just where I was as she had suffered anxiety problems for many years. Jade’s final solution to the problem was a self help product called Panic Away, although she had spent many years trying to get help from medication, which in her case did not resolve her anxiety problems. Jade gave such a glowing Panic Away Review I did eventually purchase it myself, but not a year or so later, which really was far to long looking back, but it seems it took me that long to accept that panic attacks were taking over my life.

I had visited my Doctor on a few occasions, but he was not very sympathetic to my cause. Looking back, this is when I really needed the support of my Doctor; I’m sure his attitude only made things worse as it took me longer to accept that panic attacks had a hold on my life.

When was the first time you had your panic attack? Whatever is the effect, whatever is that you have done, whatever it is that you have went through, your first panic attack should be a learning experience that will help you control attacks in the days to come. Sometimes people with a panic attack go to the ER thinking they are having a heart attack as the symptoms are much the same and come on without warning. You’ll feel things like sudden feelings of uncontrollable fear, anxiety, shortness of breath, dizziness, trembling, rapid heart beat, hyperventilation, tingling sensation, nausea, etc. When they learn that it was a panic attack and knowing the distinction they can start learning how to control their panic attacks in the future rather than the other way around. This is very important because often a panic attack will keep you from doing simple everyday chores. Actually, when you say panic attack, it is not a disease but rather is caused by physical, mental and emotional triggers. For instance, a disease like diabetes can make you go panicky and all. So, the disease can generate uncontrollable panic attacks. Genetics may play a part and females are more apt to get them than men. Allergies to food, drink or chemicals can trigger an attack along with bad memories. Liquor and drug can also activate panic attacks and disorders. Serious and upsetting experiences along with everyday events could trigger an attack. If you have this kind of situation, it’s best that you should try to find a Panic Portal remedy and not some sort of medication. Better yet, look for a no-doctors-please sort of remedy.

Panic disorder may lead to avoiding certain situations where the panic attack prey will try everything to keep away from a place or situation where he feels an attack will take place and some may even tend not leave their abode which could be a very dire disruption to a normal life. Drugs can help temporarily but it can have some adverse side-effects and you have to agree with that now, right?

So, what are the best remedies? People who had gone to a doctor for consultation said they were usually told they should avoid caffeine in colas, coffee, chocolate and tea. Fortunately, there are people who have shared various natural treatments they have used to cure panic attacks without using medicines and one of the best among these treatments is extensively explained in recent Panic Away reviews.

The first choice that any panic attack sufferer can get is deep breathing. Taking in simple and deep, slow breaths can prevent hyperventilation. By getting hyperventilation under control, you elude things such as the dizziness which happens because there is too much oxygen being taken to the brain at one time. Exercise is also one good way to take away all those anxiety. An adrenaline rush usually go with an attack and the exercise can bleed it off according to people who use it. Another one of the best remedy is aromatheraphy. A former panic attack patient says that by using smells that bring back lovely, such as baby powder, certain flowers, farm animals or barbecuing, it gave him a sense of serenity. Some even said that aromas from essential oils or candles were the best. Meditation can also be a big help. You can go and ask support from a professional or you can just simply think happy thoughts and maybe you can have some pixie dust to go along with then, maybe, you can fly to Neverland where there are no troubles.

Anyway, there are many other solutions for panic attacks. You can also go for professional help like hypnosis or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but if you need a more healthier, safer and affordable way to get rid of panic attacks the most natural way possible and on your own, you should ask Joe Barry and his book guide called “Panic Away”. You can know more about Joe Barry and this best-selling self-help book of his by following any of the links above. If you are a panic attack sufferer and you want to control your panic attacks instead of the other way around, then, you should not hesitate to get a copy of this book guide by Joe Barry.

Almost all people all over the world has fear but why is it that there are those who can tackle all kinds of rejection and fear? Have you heard of Manny Pacquiao, that Filipino boxer who already has four world-boxing titles wrapped around his waist? What about that unknown soldier who died in Iwo Jima half a century ago? What about that successful businessman who was extremely rich and retired from his own company feeling satisfied? Don’t they have fear, panic or anxiety? Of course, they have and no humans can’t live without them. But between them and the rest of the world, they only have one thing in their minds why they succeed, they now how to control their anxiety. Sad to say, some of us don’t have the ability to control our fear and instead of controlling this mental condition, it is the other way around. We tend to let fear control us and that’s why, we need some kind of outside solution to help us control our uncontrollable fear and right now, one of the most popular solution that people have come up with is a sort of Panic Portal natural remedy.

Before you can get to get rid of panic attacks or whatever, you should get to know fear first. Actually, fear is an acronym, F.E.A.R., and no, it’s not that video game entitled First Encounter Assault Recon team but it’s actually False Expectations Appearing Real. Yes, you read it right. Some of the fear that is deep within the hearts of men is just false expectations. Here is a good example: A salesman is doing some sort of tele-marketing, calling up a prospect that is already in his list and he’s been dreaming about closing a sale with this big-time business mogul that can help him make millions once this deal is closed. So, he called this manufacturer and while the phone is ringing and he’s waiting for someone to answer at the end of the line, a series of thoughts came into his mind. “What if he tells me he’s busy? What if he refuses? Can I handle such rejection? What if…”? After this, you should try to read a Panic Away review.

So, that’s basically it. It’s not really bad to go panicky and all. Everybody needs to panic once in a while and it can be advantageous to you, that is, if you know how to handle and control itSometimes, the feeling of panic can help anyone get out of any mess that he is in. His mind will race beyond 300 mph trying to think of a way to resolve a problem or beat a deadline. It is beneficial for someone to panic especially when lives are in danger, like, say, in an apartment building fire. He needs to find a way to get his family to safety without causing further misfortunes. But the only thing that can be hazardous is when those panic attacks start to control him and he can’t seem to find a way out. As what have said before, there are many solutions for panic attacks and some of them come in the form of medication but bear in mind. Panic attacks are not diseases or illnesses, they are mental conditions. Don’t go for medicines. While medicines do exist to help prevent an attack, or calm a person down during an attack; being dependent on such medicines is usually not encouraged, especially since some of the side effects of the medicines can be very undesirable. What you need is to change your lifestyle, get some exercises, for example, to help reduce stress and if you do need help, get help from a natural therapy. You can read these Panic Away reviews after this to know what the best therapy for learning how to control panic attacks is.

Anti-depressants today are a host of SSRI medications. They include Zoloft, Paxil and Prozac. They have side effects that include dry mouth, sexual side effects and drowsiness. When you first start taking the medication, it takes a while to get into your bloodstream. For most people, it will take about two weeks before you start to feel better.

Panic Attack Drug: Defeat The Enemy Within

Panic attack medications or even specific panic attack drugs are known to be quite effective in controlling symptoms of panic attack. However, there is more to the story than simply popping a pill each time you fear the onset of a panic attack. The sad truth is that no panic attack drug can effectively prevent a panic attack from starting – mainly because medications cannot act fast enough to prevent the attack.

Panic Attack Medication
Unfortunately, panic attacks occur without warnings and are more like lightning that flashes without giving you an idea that they are about to flash. It takes a further ten minutes for the panic attack to peak and often symptoms can persist for a while with the patient constantly fearing the onset of a fresh attack.

No doubt, panic attack drugs can help reduce the remaining ill effects of a panic attack; however, once the attack is underway there is little that any panic attack drug can do because there is simply not enough time for it to do its work. Nevertheless, there are many classifications of these drugs worth learning more about – both, in regard to natural supplements as well as prescription medications.

You can even get some welcome relief if you choose an alternative to typical panic attack drugs. In fact, you should seriously consider using herbal anti-anxiety supplements that help to calm the mind and keep the nerves under control. What’s more, those who use these alternatives to panic attack drugs can be considered as being very lucky – mainly because they will get quick relief and also not have to worry about dangerous side effects.

Among panic attack drugs there are two main classes. The first one are tranquilizers that help in reducing everyday anxieties and which can also prove effective in reducing incidences as well as severity of panic attacks. However, using such panic attack drugs can also lead to overdependence on them – which are never a good thing.

Among all panic attack drugs the one that is used most often is anti-depressants in the form of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors or SSRIs. These are quite effective, though you will also at the same time have to contend with several disturbing side effects including sexual dysfunction and sleep disturbances.

As far as selecting the best medication for panic attacks there no doubts the fact that not taking any medication is the best medication. It is far better to identify the root cause (fear, in most cases) and act positively and proactively to defeat fear through strong will and determination rather than depend on panic attack drugs – best or otherwise.

The bottom line is that there are no magic potions to help cure your panic attacks. Using panic attack drugs is certainly an alternative; being strong and defeating the problem from within would however provide better results – no matter how difficult it may be.

When dealing with stress and its related issues, it is important to realize that some forms of stress can actually be extremely harmful to the body. Since everyone suffers from stresses of some kind, this is a big deal for everyone. Too much stress can lead to serious health disorders. This makes overcoming stress one of the most important skills to have in the world today.

There are many different levels of stress and some are minor, while others can pose serious health risks. Stress can actually lead to many other problems, such as eating disorders, sleep disorders, ulcers, depression, cardiovascular and digestive problems, as well as mental issues. Stress preys on the mind, prompting the sufferer to constantly worry about the pressures that they are under. This can be quite a harmful cycle because they never get a chance to relax or let go of the issues that they are facing. Most people face stressful circumstances throughout a good portion of their lives. Pressures about employment, money, family and many other things can cause stress in a person’s life. If not dealt with in a timely manner, it can build up to such a level that it causes serious health problems in a person’s life. Yet nearly anything can cause stresses. What causes stress for some might not cause any stress for someone else. The important thing is how you deal with it.

Stress can be treated in different ways. While the initial treatment is to learn stress management skills, in many cases it is not enough to see a noticeable change in stress levels. Many health experts believe that high levels can lead to other issues, such as depression and anxiety disorders. Antidepressants are sometimes prescribed for stress and its related cousins. If you suspect that someone you know is suffering from too much stress, or you feel that you are under too much stress, then it might be a good idea to read wellness guides to properly diagnose what you or your loved ones might be going through. The best way to live a stress free life is to learn to let things go. Of course, this can often be extremely hard to do, which is why stress management is a very popular form of therapy. If a stress problem is suspected, then be sure to contact a health professional for an expert diagnosis.

Stress and its related disorders can lead to serious health risks, so it is very important not to ignore the signs. One of the most common treatments is overcoming stress courses, or antidepressants. Since this is a problem that strikes everyone at some point or other, it is important not to overlook the importance of treatments if levels become too high. A health expert can coach someone on the best way to deal with stress.

Understanding The Relationship Between Depression, Anxiety And Insomnia

The relationship between depression, anxiety and insomnia is so close that there are times when a person is afflicted with these three conditions all at the same time. Study shows that people who are suffering from anxiety will most likely descend into depression if not treated early. On the other hand, people who are depressed at often too emotional disturbed that they could not sleep at night.

In some cases, insomnia comes first before anxiety and depression. People who have spent several sleepless nights often become anxious and depressed. In the end, whichever of these three conditions come first, people who suffer from depression, anxiety and insomnia often end up feeling too disoriented and tired that they could no longer go through their usually daily routines.

Dealing With Depression, Anxiety And Insomnia

The best way to deal with depression, anxiety and insomnia is to understand the signs and symptoms of these conditions. However, the signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety and insomnia closely resemble each other that it is often difficult to isolate these symptoms from each other and attribute them specifically to depression, anxiety and insomnia. To help you understand your condition, it would be best for you to see a psychologist.

When seeing with the psychologist for the first time, make sure that you discuss with him or her you feelings. Do not withhold information from your psychologist especially when it comes to your emotional problems and concerns. You need not worry about privacy of information. Medical professionals are sworn to protect the privacy of their patients so nobody can see your medical records without a court order.

Your psychologist or therapist will rely on you to help him or her understand what you are going through so do your best to describe how you feel. Besides, talking about how you feel and naming your fears have a liberating effect so go ahead and unburden yourself. According to studies, depression, anxiety and insomnia can be caused by some deep-seated emotional pains so dig into your past.

Yes, going over some traumatic experiences can be quite painful but if you really want to come to terms with yourself, face your fears and your pain. Do not bottle things up inside you. Burying traumatic experiences deep within you may help you forget these experiences for sometime but sooner or later, these things will come to the surface and will cause havoc on your life.

Those who suffer from panic disorders are most often terrified about the possibility of triggering their next panic attack. This is a mental disease that many people associate with depression and poor stress management. Fortunately, there are plenty of warning signs before the onset of any attack, and your ability to single out these signs should enable you to prevent the onset of one.

The most important remedy while fighting against a panic disorder is to take action. Do not wait for it to wash over you; do not wait to pit your strength against it and measure your will power against the storm that is created by an anxiety panic attack. The best way to stop panic attacks is to prevent them. Traumatic as it is, a few simple steps at the onset of an attack can help you tremendously. Most experts would say that you should not brace yourself against it, but rather roll with the wave. In this way, the attack will come and go, and you will not feel devastated the next day.

Life can look totally different if you look at it from two different angles. People who are affected by panic disorders tend to think that they have no worth. This in turn points to the possibility of moving toward a major attack, unless you are able to prevent it in time. Be on the look out for depression and anxiety tell-tale signs.

Panic disorders are the result of a mental disease, and can turn regular, day-to-day problems into mammoth fears and anxiety attacks if left untreated. These attacks are tremendously traumatic since they are disproportionate to reality and therefore, it becomes difficult for you to defend yourself against it. Health experts advise that the only things that can control such attacks are strong will power, appropriate medicines and timely action. All these initiatives should be applied at the same time in the correct order and intensity to provide you with relief.

Millions of people deal with panic disorders each day of their lives. They are locked in a vicious cycle of needing help but not knowing how to get it. If you suffer from these conditions it can make each moment seem like forever. It changes who you are and what you wish to be. But do not give up hope. There is a bright future ahead for you if you take the time to know your condition and ailment. It may seem impossible at times but you can get through this.

A certain amount of anxiousness or anxiety is normal, but if your anxiety symptoms begin to rule your life, you may need to start looking for treatment of them. Lots of folks are concerned and feel tense or afraid when looking at a situation that is stressful. It is thought to be our body’s expected response when it feels pressured.

While anxiety is not fun, it can be a positive thing to go through. Anxiety helps a person to stay focused and alert, and help you find motivation. However, if you are controlled by anxiety and it starts taking over your life, it can interfere with relationships and other areas of your life. At this point you have to accept the fact that you may have an anxiety disorder and seek anxiety or panic attack cures.

Anxiety or panic symptoms can be different for everyone. While some will deal with debilitating panic attacks with no warning, others could just get panicky at the thought of something. Still others may live in a constant state of tension where they are concerned about absolutely everything. There is, however, one symptom that all sufferers have: constant or intense fear or worry about things that most people wouldn’t think twice about.

Feeling angry
* Having trouble with concentration
* Having feelings of dread
* Feeling restless
* Feeling tense
* Fearing the worst
* Paranoia
* Tendency to lose your train of thought

In addition to the emotional panic symptoms, there are also physical symptoms that come along with a panic attack. Because these are so numerous, many people think these symptoms are caused by a medical illness. Some physical symptoms of panic attacks are:

Most panic attacks become most intense within 10 minutes, and normally don’t last more than 30 minutes. While this may not seem to be a very long time, but it does to the one who’s experiencing the symptoms. The anxiety experienced during the attacks can be so intense that victims usually have a feeling of being about to die. The physical symptoms can be so horrible that a lot of people believe they are experiencing a heart attack.

If you are living with any of these anxiety symptoms in a group, or alone, and there does not seem to be a valid reason for them, it will be helpful to seek the advice of a health care professional.

Many people all over the world suffer from anxiety disorders and these disorders often cause panic attacks. If you are one of those people, then you know anxiety panic attacks can cause a rush of different emotions; each one more overwhelming than the last. To properly deter an anxiety panic attack you have to first know what they are and what causes them. This article is going to explain what these attacks consist of and how to deal with them when they occur.

An anxiety attack is a symptom of different anxiety disorders. If you suffer from them, then it’s important to understand what they are. An attack is when a person’s anxiety and stress levels balloon to a point where they cannot control it. They quickly begin to fear their surroundings, fear they are dying, having a heart attack, or are going crazy. It is a cognitive episode where your mind will tell your body it is experiencing discomfort that likely doesn’t exist and can last from one minute to fifteen minutes. Often an attack will cause a person to live in fear of the next attack, which only worsens the stress.

Keeping a cool head during an anxiety panic attack is hard to do, especially when you suffer from an anxiety disorder. However, if this is something you have to deal with for the rest of your life it’s important to learn stress management. Anxiety panic attacks come on fast so the best thing to do in most cases is to calm down and then lay down. Once you do this you can try and calm your mind by stating that it will pass and telling yourself that the pain you are feeling isn’t real. You can try and prevent panic attacks by learning what triggers them. Do they happen in certain situations or do negative thoughts bring them on?

You can take the controlling techniques to a higher level in order to get rid of your anxiety panic attacks. You can start out by teaching yourself relaxation practices. You’ll want to choose something that’s appropriate for you. Some of the more popular choices are listening to relaxing music, reading and practicing yoga. Once you learn what an anxiety panic attack is and what to do to control them your life should be on the road to recovery. Anxiety disorders can make life complicated but with a clear head and a lot of determination you should be able to handle whatever they throw your way!

Suffering from anxiety changes your life. Whereas once you were able to go out and have fun without any trouble, suddenly a routine trip to the grocery store seems insurmountable. You panic at the thought of leaving your home or speaking to others. It is a debilitating condition but there is help and there is hope for a better quality of life. It takes courage to be able to admit that you have a problem and it takes even more to seek out help. It is help that you desperately need. You can end your anxiety yourself. Click here to get rid of your panic attacks today.

Stress is one of the most common forms of anxiety. Stress and other related problems are present in nearly every person alive in varying degrees. There are actually several different kinds of stress, some of which are more dangerous than others. It is important to keep stress under control with proper stress management so that it does not take over an otherwise healthy life.

There are many different types of stress and similar disorders. Some forms of stress are not as serious, but some can cause health risks. Too much stress can lead to other issues, such as cardiovascular and digestive problems, eating disorders and sleep disorders. Large amounts of stress cause a person to constantly think about the pressure that they are under, which in turn never allows them to relax. This eventually becomes harmful to the body, as it is in a constant state of agitation. Stress is something that affects nearly everyone at some time or another and there are many causes, such as worries about jobs, finances, family and other things. When left untreated, stress can build to such a point that it has a adverse influence on entire families. The most important thing to remember about stress is that it is necessary to deal with it every day so that it does not build into a monster of an issue.

If you suspect that someone you know is suffering from too much stress, or you feel that you are under too much stress, then it might be a good idea to read health guides to properly diagnose what you or your loved ones might be going through. The best way to live a stress free life is to learn to let things go. Of course, this can often be extremely hard to do, which is why stress management is a very popular form of therapy. If a stress problem is suspected, then be sure to contact a health professional for an expert diagnosis.

Stress and related disorders can sometimes be the trigger to much more serious health issues. Stress management can help avoid these issues, but not everyone knows how to do this. Sometimes doctors will give out antidepressants to persons under a great deal of stress. Since this is something that strikes everyone, treatment is very important. Health professionals are the best resource for advice and guidance.

A vacation would be one of the best stress relievers. But, not one that you are forced to go on or take. Rather, one that you would find relaxing and interesting enough to get your mind off the same old-same old. Not everybody can do what they want or go where they want. So, let me give you some tips on hos to find stress relief.

Don’t try to eliminate all your stress at once, you didn’t acquire it all at once. Make gradual changes over time. Your habits will start to change and you will see stress relief throught the new strategies you pick up.

Stress can be relieved in a number of different ways.

One method of relieving stress is with puzzles. They literally force your mind to change it’s focus and move from what is causing you stress. Puzzles are available in all sizes and for all ages.

Gardening is an excellent source of stress relief. Or getting out in the woods for a walk or cutting and stacking firewood can be a healthy means of releasing pent up nervous energy and stress.

Nature offers beautiful things for us to see everyday, but most of the time we are too busy to even notice. Nature is an excellent way to relieve stress. There are several scenes and facets of nature that are highly relaxing, from the sound of a running brook to the crashing of the waves on the rocks to a quiet walk in the woods.

How hard would it be for you to add one simple pleasure to your daily routine?

Try a hobby. It does not have to be expensive. it can be as simple as replanting a 99 cent cacti into a nicer pot and watching it shoot up. They grow fast and are easy to grow. But, you should find something that can take your mind off the stress and find some relief.

You’ve heard about herbs and that they might bring stress relief, but you may have hesitated. Natural stress supplements are available. Natural cures are great alternatives to prescription drugs. In addition to being safer than prescription medication; natural stress relief can be just as effective if not more so.

Music can alleviate a lot of stress. It can calm the children, providing you don’t overdose them with sugar and you are the person repsponsible for the selection of the music! Try singing or dancing with the kids, or your spouse for that matter.

Try picking up an instrument on ebay. Get something easy that you can play around with and have some relaxing fun. I ended up getting a bunch of odd and unusual noise makers for fun but also a nice Native American flute that even I can make sound good.

The Bible indicates that we can make melody in our hearts. You can also speak blessings to yourself. The body reacts differently when it hears you speak a blessing to yourself over someone else speaking to you. If you need tips, pick up a CD and repeat them to your self while driving or working around the house.

Exercise can heal your mind as it shapes your body. One good method for stress relief is breathing deeply and exercise can get you doing just that. Go ahead and release all the tension and frustration and feel better when you are done.

Knowing the best you can be can be accomplished through some exercise. give yourself a boost of self confidence.

Give yourself a break with some laughter. Really, laughter is the best medicine. it will get you to stop focusing on what ails you and allow you to release tension and anxiety.

You’ve heard the expression, take only photos and leave only footprints? Get out and take some shots-with a camera. Experiment with close-ups of people and flowers and insects. It can be an amazing form of relaxation and stress release. Who knows, maybe you have a hidden talent never discovered.

Whatever you choose as your preferred stress relief tip, remind yourself that taking the time to find your mental wellness on a busy day is one of the better things you can do for your overall wellness and well-being.

Stress just seems to be part of our lives like eating and breathing. There are more demands placed on us over shorter time periods than perhaps ever in the history of mankind. In the days of old, stress was usually from physical danger. If you were a pioneer for example, then the seeing of indians would definitely cause stress as the pioneer surely feared physical harm. This type of stress is called the flight or fight reaction. However, in modern times most of our stress is mental and not physical. Yet our bodies have the same reaction to mental stress as they do to physical stress.

When we come under stress our bodies prepare us for action in the following ways: Adrenaline is released to boost the energy and strength of the body. This increases our heart rate and breathing. Our major organs will direct their efforts to only those that immediately serve supporting physical action. This adrenaline rush causes us to feel tension and perhaps nervous as we anticipate taking some type of action. There is a great release of chemicals and a redirection of bodily activity to support our reaction to stress.

You know when you have a big meeting, you have a nervous reaction which is similar to the fight or flight reaction. Part of your stress management is to redirect this nervous energy into helping you perform better in the meeting. This takes discipline and training. Many top athletes are able to channel this nervous energy into higher levels of performance. But again with athletic performance there is a physical release of this built up energy.

When we are under stress, our bodies are primed for taking physical action. When we take physical action, then we are releasing out the increased energy out our bodies physically. If we do not have a physical outlet, one excellent method is massage therapy. Massage therapy helps loosen up muscle tension, it releases toxins trapped in our muscle tissue and it helps us to mentally relax. Some massage treatments also can reverse the tension in the major organs via the trigger points in our hands and feet.

Massage chair recliners have many effective massage therapies with proven beneficial effects. Massage chairs come equipped with Shiatsu massage, Swedish massage, Deep Tissue and many others. Each of these massage treatments target specific areas and have different benefits. In general, they all help induce relaxation and help to ease aches and pains. Massage helps to remove toxins from the body and enhances circulation of the blood and lymph. Both the blood and lymph clean the body of toxins and other potentially harmful substances.

Stress comes from our environment and is subject to our interpretation and built up set of reactions. These cannot be eliminated entirely. Massage therapy is an essential tool in our stress management toolbox. Massage chairs are one of the most convenient and effective ways to receive massage therapy. These recliners have full body capabilities and have many additional features beyond massage. Many have stretching, music therapy and heat. These additional features compliment the massage and help to induce total body relaxation.

If you are feeling stressed, then just imaging taking a quick 20 minute power massage. Relieve the build up of stress and anxiety. Release the tension in your neck, back and shoulders. Give your mind a chance to be free from the tunneling affects of a stressful situation. This can be a powerful stress management tool in the comfort and convenience of home to better manage your stress. Life becomes much more manageable with your own massage chair recliner.

by Dave Turo-Shields, LCSW, CEC

A phone counseling session is just like a sit-down counseling session. You set an appointment, and at that time, your therapist calls you on the phone and give expert counseling advice for 50-60 minutes. The difference is that you don’t meet face-to-face.

Phone Counseling And Confidentiality

Phone counseling is incredibly private. Now, having said that, I must add that normally the biggest chance for breach of privacy during a phone counseling session is if someone at home or at the office picks up the line while the session is in progress. Many choose to use their cell phones, thereby eliminating immediate interruption. But I have to remind folks that if their spouse looks over the cell records they may ask about what that call was about. Yes, many spouses don’t want even their spouse to be aware they’ve reached out for help for one issue or another.

Comparing Live Counseling Sessions With Phone Counseling

Even though my therapy team was an early pioneer of online and phone counseling, starting in 1998, I will still tell you that nothing beats a live session. There is so much that is communicated in the moment that is not spoken and in phone counseling you miss out on these powerful non-verbal cues. However, having said that, the type of person who seeks out phone counseling have said in surveys, that they would have never sought therapy if they hadn’t had the option of phone counseling. In fact, over 95% of those surveyed who had sought out this service say they wouldn’t hesitate to do it again.

Most all of us have a need to please other people. A client sitting in a session should be focused on their needs, not the therapists needs. However, would you think a client still wants the therapist to like them in a live session? Phone counseling has taught me that there is a lot more of that going in in live sessions than we might like to admit. I came to that conclusion years ago as I noticed how direct phone clients can be. If they feel I’m heading down the wrong path, they’re quick to tell me. Other times, they share pertinent information that they may have held back for a number of sessions, maybe because they would have felt embarrassed sharing it live.

So what’s the outcome? I have found in phone sessions that we “get down to it” much quicker. Clients feel more empowered to stop you in mid-sentence and tell you straight-away if your approach doesn’t seem to be a fit for them. This is immensely helpful as it makes the therapist adjust to exactly what the client needs. This all makes for a much more efficient session and a happier client outcome.

Phone Therapy Fits Busy Schedules

In a fast-paced world phone therapy is incredibly flexible and you can fit it to YOUR schedule. Most times you have to work around a therapists schedule. I’ve counseled people while they walk, before they head off to work, during lunch time, while on a commute train to work, or in the car as they drive to or from work.

We all live in a busy world with busy lives. This is one way practitioners can adapt to people’s lives. Clients are very grateful for it. Other clients suffer so severely from issues such as agoraphobia that they cannot leave the house. We’ve counseled and prepared people to leave the house while on a cell phone and work directly with their anxiety right in the moment. Now that’s meeting a client exactly where they are at.

What Is The Cost Of Phone Counseling?

You may have already put this together from the previous paragraphs. How much would you estimate it might cost you to take time off work? Get child care? How much is it worth to you to travel to and from appointments? Live sessions across the US range anywhere from $65-$140 per hour. When adding in the items I mentioned above you can add another 15-20%. Using phone therapy can cost you 15-20% less than a scheduled sit-down appointment.

Isn’t Phone Counseling A Cold Way To Receive Help?

We know that the literature shows that all therapies have about the same level of success. What makes the difference is the alliance between therapist and client. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how powerful the connection can be, even in the very firt session of phone therapy. I’ve been counseling by phone for 10 years now. I don’t do things that don’t work! I like to see my clients making progress and happy in their lives. Phone counseling definitely answers the call, so to speak.

Will Your Insurance Pay For Phone Counseling?

Always call your insurance carrier and ask. I wouldn’t have recommended that until the past two years. Many insurance companies are beginning to see the benefits of online counseling and phone counseling.

My practice has had two EAP contracts in the last two years specifically to deliver counseling services through email and by phone. Most likely your insurance carrier will say no, but let them know when you call that it’s a service you’d like to see them cover in the future.

Phone Counseling Wrap Up

This service is not for every client. Clients who are suicidal or feeling scared they may hurt someone else needs to call 911 or the national help line at 211. If you’re in this type of crisis you need local care immediately.

Phone counseling is a smashing success. And don’t just take my word for it. Google “phone counseling research” and you will see that this approach is wildly successful and popular. The truth is that you, the consumer, are driving the need for phone counseling services. Every year the statistics go up. More people are searching for this service every month. Our job in the counseling profession is to meet you exactly where you’re at and offer the high quality services we offer right in our offices.

The rate of anxiety in the United States is growing in a fierce way. Many first reach out to their doctors for help. This is good and bad. What do most doctors do? They prescribe medications. There is a time and place for anxiety medications, but it should never be the first course of anxiety treatment.

There are several forms of anxiety disorders. Some include Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Social Anxiety, Phobias, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and a few more. As you can see, there are many types of anxiety. The first, most important step is accurate diagnosis. Once you’re helping professional is clear on exactly what type of anxiety disorder you have, that’s half the battle right there.

While learning the proper anxiety treatments, you to be brave. Anxiety is powerful and I know you want to have it be gone yesterday, but effective techniques can take a while to begin to work for you.

One of the oldest tricks in the book involves breathing into a paper bag. We’ve all heard about this or seen it on TV. It’s interestingly successful. Now-a-days we know more about ‘why’ its successful in treating anxiety. The regulation of the breath is tied directly to your nervous system. Now that I’m feeling better, I see the world in vibrant colors. I had no idea really how much of my life anxiety had taken until I began to live without it.”

So, in the meantime, here’s what I want you to do. Get online or pick up the phone book and begin looking for just the right professional for you.

Stress is the emotional and physical strain which is caused by a persons response to pressure from the outside world. People respond differently to stress, however the reactions to stress are often similar, and this includes tension, irritability, depression, and a variety of physical symptoms.

In order to get a handle on the stress in your life you first need to recognize it yourself and admit that there is a problem.

Chinese Stress Balls

There are many effective ways of dealing with stress, but one of the best available these days involves the use of Chinese stress balls. These Chinese stress balls have numerous health benefits, and they are used for stress relief, to improve balance and coordination, prevent arthritis and rheumatism, stimulate blood circulation, and help during physical therapy.

There are numerous shapes, styles, and colors of Chinese stress balls that are available for you to choose from, as well as a plethora of vendors who sell them.

Other Ideas

Although typically Chinese stress balls are very effective at helping to relieve stress, you may not have as much success if you have a serious problem with stress or if you have been dealing with it for an extended period of time. In this case you would want to consider other, more serious options.

Stress relief medication is often prescribed, and this will help you to deal with high levels of stress that are not easily managed through other means. Xanax is one of the most commonly suggested stress relief medications, which falls under the category of anti-anxiety medications classified as benzodiazepines.

Valium is also often used to treat stress conditions, and it works by affecting chemicals in the brain that become unbalanced and result in causing stress, anxiety, seizures, and muscle spasms. There are a few things that should be discussed with your physician before you begin taking this drug however, including telling your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, are pregnant or nursing, or if you have narrow-angle glaucoma.

The important thing is that there are many effective ways to get your stress under control and make a positive change to your life. Stress can reach a dangerous point and in order to make sure that it is does not get that far you need to take care of the problem now. Speak to your doctor for more information on this and on what you can do to eliminate stress from your life.

Now is the only time that is important. Many people get caught up in their day to day lives and focus on the future which can bring about anxiety or stress. Stress can cause many problems such as concentration issues, lack of good judgment, negativity and lack of productivity. The best way to combat these feelings of stress is through relaxation. Relaxation plays in a key roll in leading a healthy happy life. Relaxation takes as little as ten minutes a day and can be as simple as breathing exercises, or as challenging as a kick boxing class, the choice is yours.

Relaxation can happen anywhere, at work, at home or on a little deserted island off the coast of Mexico. Unfortunately not everyone can take a nice vacation to that dream island or a seven year sabbatical. Many need to learn to relax in the comfort of their own homes and lives. The key is to find something you enjoy and teach your mind to relax when you do it.

Finding your method of relaxation might be more difficult for some than others, but it is easy, just think about what you enjoy most. Maybe you like surfing the web, reading, meditating or walking. Any of these activities can be a relaxation method and can be scaled down to ten minutes.

Watching TV, listening to music, surfing the web and reading all offer a break from regular day to day situations. They each create an alternative world that is entirely your own. Your mind visually escapes into a place that is different and exciting instead of dull, boring and always the same as so many of us think our lives are.

Meditation can help you learn to reflect on situations and to control your breathing to calm your mind. These techniques need to be learned and practiced in order to achieve the maximum result. Once mastered, you can relax at the drop of a hat and find inner control in as little as ten minutes.

Other people prefer to hit the gym to relax. Some like to run, walk or lift weights. Others might prefer a cycling, kick boxing or tai chi class. Running and walking burn off excessive built up energy, however not everyone wants to run a marathon. For them there are other sorts of classes which sole purpose is relaxation such as yoga. Many people choose to skip the classes and gym all together and simply walk their dogs in the park.

Practice makes perfect and remember patience is a virtue. Listen to your body and practice until your body knows what relaxation feels like. Make note of what did not work for your mind and body, remember it for the future. Be patient, if you don’t get it right away, it will happen eventually so keep up the good work. But make sure to keep yourself motivated by reminding yourself you will be healthier and happier in the end and think how nice it is to do something you like!

Make sure you try different techniques, sometimes one might work better than another and it is best to have a variety. Learning something new is always a challenge however once you get the hang of it, it is like riding a bike, your body won’t forget how. You must make a conscious effort to remind and train your body to relax while performing this task. It may take time, but in the end the rewards will be worth it.

Stress has become universally known as one of the silent killers of people. Coping with stress has become a worldwide pursuit that many people would like to achieve. There are actually many different ways of coping with stress. These different ways have been employed and utilized by many medical practitioners to help people deal with the many kinds of stress that they experience daily.

Kinds of Stress

Before we deal with coping with stress, let us see what the common forms of stress are. We have fear, anxiety, melancholy, panic, pressure, expectations and many others. These different forms of stress not only come from the work place but also the home. Even driving to and from work can cause stress for some people. Many people believe that stress has its better side. This is when people are motivated and inspired to achieve more and do more due to it. There is no doubt about it that stress can move people to do their best but not all people have this reaction to stress.

Dealing With the Pressures of Stress

One of the many ways of coping with stress is to know your limits and stick to it. Accepting many chores or jobs which you might not be able to finish can lead to a stressful work load. Avoiding something that you know will eventually cause you stress is a good way of coping with stress. If you do not like somebody, limit your time with that person to avoid unnecessary stress on your part. Learn to say no and learn your limits.

Talking is a way of relieving stress. This is probably why there are many psychologists and psychiatrists in the world today. Spilling out the things that upset you and things that trouble you can help de-stress you. This way of coping with stress can be done with friends and family members. You must not be so rigid regarding your points of view and opinions, be willing to listen also if you are willing to speak. Adjusting or compromising is also another way of loosening up and coping with stress.

Coping with stress need not be one of the factors of stress. Your ways of coping with stress can be different from other people or the same, the important thing is that you are comfortable with it and it does not harm you or anybody else. The fact that you have thought of or developed a way of coping with stress can be a stress reliever in itself.

Stress is an emotion experience that has a bi-folded nature. This means that stress has both positive and negative features. While some amount of stress is absolutely necessary for our survival, the experience of stress beyond a threshold point may turn out to be exhaustive and sometimes life-threatening too.

Since understanding stress is a critical concept, there are virtually wide numbers of definition of stress documented in different psychology and medical journals. The definition of stress has thus different shades, different perspectives. With the help of this article, let us explore few of them. Here we go.

Stress as Separation Anxiety

When we search for the definition of stress, where stress is perceived as an outcome of separation anxiety, we can define it as an emotional response occurring as a result of early separation from mother. Stress as separation anxiety may lead to the development of depression and substance abuse in adult life.

Stress as Post Traumatic Reaction

The definition of stress occurring as a result of post traumatic reaction is explained as post traumatic stress disorder, which is characterized by an intense fear regarding personal safety without any specific cause, recurrent thoughts of traumatic events, nightmares and poor quality sleep, feeling of detachment, emotional numbness, etc.

Stress as Biopsychosociological Reaction

The definition of stress as a biopsychosociological reaction is first explained by Hans Selye, an Austro-Canadian endocrinologist. In his explanation, he adopted a stress model, popularly known as General Adaptation Syndrome or GAS model during 1936. He explained that the stimuli of stress or stressors are perceived through three individual stages alarm, resistance and exhaustion. While stress is perceived at alarm stage, body breaks down during exhaustion stage.

Stress as Eustress and Distress

In 1974, this definition of stress was proposed by Richard Lazarus, a psychology professor and cognitive-mediational theorist from University of California. In this definition stress was explained as either of two types eustress or distress. While the definition of eustress suggests a perception of healthy stress, distress is characterized by unhealthy one.

In the definition of eustress, all the good stress experiences are documented such as preparing for examination, meeting a goal, marriage, buying a new property, receiving the news of promotion, etc. On the other hand, the same event can be listed under distress if those incidents are perceived from a different angle, say, taking excessive pressure before examination.

There are many other definitions of stress as well. However, the above-mentioned definitions are widely known and perceived by many people around the world. Since the understanding of stress needs an in-depth study, so the definition of stress can be too complicated. These are only intended to give a general overview of the definition of stress.

Stress is all around us in the busy lives we lead today. Balancing work and family life alone can bring more stress than the average person is equipped to handle. When you couple that with issues like death, divorce or caring for an ailing family member, the effects of stress on the body can become quite devastating indeed. If you are going through a particularly challenging time of life, it is important to understand the effects of stress on the body and what you can do to relieve them.

Protecting your Mental Health

While the effects of stress on the body are generally focused on the physical issues, the toll that stress can take on one’s mental health is significant as well. Stress can affect your judgment and decision making process, by preventing clear thought processes and encouraging you to look at issues with a negative perspective. Another effect of stress on the body is forgetfulness and memory lapses, which can make it difficult to function efficiently throughout the day and perhaps even add to the severity of your stress. You may find that much of your time and energy is going into worry and anxiety, which is counterproductive and may even be harmful over the long term.

Keeping your Body Healthy

In addition to the mental impact, you can also experience physical effects of stress on the body. These might include headaches and back aches that can be a result of the increased muscle tension. Digestive problems like nausea and diarrhea can also become problematic for many people. Insomnia and a loss of sex drive are more effects of stress on the body. Other symptoms might include chest pains and a rapid heartbeat, as the heart has to work harder to accommodate the “flight or fight” response the body naturally has to stressful situations. Over the long term, the effects of stress can include more frequent illness due to a reduction in the efficiency of the immune system.

Many people find that the best way to keep the physical symptoms of stress at bay is to adhere to a healthy diet that is rich in antioxidants like fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants can help to repair the damage to the body that stress can cause, and give you more energy and mental clarity. Daily exercise is another good way to manage the muscle tension and mental effects of stress on the body. Just thirty minutes of walking, biking or swimming can keep your body and mind better prepared to handle the normal stress of life. Stress happens, but you don’t have to let the negative effects of stress on the body control your life. Get a grip on your stress by sticking with a healthy lifestyle and your mind and body will sail through challenging situations in a much healthier, happier way.
